Work Wear | Classic with a Twist

This dress is hands down one of my favorite wear-to-work dresses. I love finding pieces for the office that are classic enough to be completely work day appropriate, but with an added modern or trendy spin. The dropped hem waist and ruffles on this dress make me feel like I am office ready... but also like I could hit up a salsa class at a moment's notice haha.

I actually have a number of dropped waist dresses; they are one of my favorite fits. What really drew me to this one in particular though is the length. Often dropped waist dresses are 'mini dresses' perfect for a night out or a casual beach day. This is one of the first dresses I have seen in this silhouette where it is designed to be just above the knee- a perfect work day length.

I decided to accessorize this dress with my new glasses that I am obsessed with. I got these in San Francisco last weekend when I was shopping with Kelsey from Blondes & Bagels in Haight-Ashbury. I am such a sucker for big fake glasses, and I love the almost rose gold frame and aviator shape of these. Since they are from a local boutique, I couldn't link them up, but I did find a very similar pair that I included below.

To top off this outfit I went with a statement necklace and my go-to nude pumps. My handbag is an old one that I actually got in Curacao (random I know), but again I found similar ones for you and linked those up below.

In other news, today is my last day of work before I head out on another mini-vacation! Tuesday I am heading out to Ontario to visit my family for 5 days. I am so excited to see my nieces and nephews and get to just relax. I'll still be doing blog posts while I am away, but definitely tune into my instastories if you want to see more of what I am up to.

Weekend Wear | NSale Purchases Review

Mock Neck Tie Hem Sweater

After the positive feedback from last week's Nordstrom Anniversary Sale work wear review; I wanted to do one further NSale post reviewing some weekend wear. In my opinin every #bossbabe also needs a cozy weekend wardrobe! Specifically, I was on the hunt for the best fall and winter sweaters from the Nordstrom sale, so today I've got reviews of my favorite ones. Unless otherwise noted all of these are still in stock as of today - but get your hands on them fast as well all know how quickly the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale items sell out!

First up, the above tie hem sweater. This is hands down my favorite sweater from the sale! I love that it is a cozy 'neutral' that will go with anything, but the tie hem detail keeps it from being basic or boring. This sweater is perfection in my books! It fits true to size (maybe a touch big). I am wearing a size S petite (because they were sold out of regular). I would have preferred a size S regular for a bit more length but the petite isn't that much different.

Cold Shoulder Tie Sleeve Sweater

The sleeve detailing on this sweater drew me to it when i saw it online, but it wasn't until I found it in store that I knew i HAD to get it. It is lined with the fleeciest, softest, I-want-to-live-in-it material. I can't wait to wear this this fall with black denim and boots! Once again it fits true to size.

Speaking of comfortable, this bell sleeve sweater by Gibson is the softest fleece material but it somehow doesn't look like fleece (if you know what I mean). You wouldn't know it was fleece without touching it - which I love! This would be a great basic to have in your closet this fall. Throw it on with jeans and a necklace and you are good to go! When it starts to get really cold this winter, this would also be so perfect worn with jeans, a touque and a puffer vest on top. I am wearing a medium in this and love the loose fit.

Pleated Bell Sleeve Sweater

This is another sweater that I loved WAY more in person than online. What you can't tell online, that I love, is that there is a normal sleeve layered underneath the pleated bell sleeve. This makes the sweater both comfortable and extra warm. This one is the Red Syrah color, but as you can tell, it is more burnt orange than red. I actually prefer that to a more classic red as it is such a great, unique piece for your fall wardrobe. I highly recommend this one!

Flare Sleeve Sweater

This is another classic sweater (more of a shirt really since it is quite thin). I loved it in both the navy and black, so I had to share photos of both. The white trim on the flared sleeves is such a pretty touch. I found this fits a bit on the small side. I go between a small and a medium depending on the brand, and went with a medium on this, and find the medium to still be quite a tight fit (as you can tell). If you're between sizes, I recommend sizing up!

Grommet Sleeve Pullover

This sweater only has size S left, so it may be sold out by the time this post goes live, so don't shoot me if that's the case! :) In any event, this is actually a sweater I did not love and probably wouldn't recommend. It definitely fits very, very large (I'm in a small and could have used an extra small). I like the baggy fit of the sweater, but the sleeves are SO LONG. They went well past my fingertips (as you can kind of see in the photo). For this reason, I wouldn't recommend this sweater.

Striped Cashmere Turtleneck

One of the (many) great pieces of style advice my grandmother gave me was that if you find cashmere on sale, you should ALWAYS buy it! I have taken this advice to heart and over the years have collected a fair few cashmere pieces that I adore - and i have never paid full price! This sweater is cashmere and is such a good price for the quality! I like the striped detail because it is so different than anything else I own. It is also a thicker sweater than one would expect from cashmere, which I like for the cold winter days. I recommend this sweater (and maybe also getting it in a second color!)

I am not sure how I feel about this cold shoulder sweater. LOVE the cold shoulder concept (the strap part is a nice touch) but the fit I found a bit odd. I think this would look great on a straight/narrow body type, but on my hips/curves it did not seem to sit right. I felt a bit like a balloon. I'd recommend this sweater, therefore, if you have a straight build but to my curvy sisters I'd say it's a pass.

The Style Hive @ Columbia StrEAT Food Truck Festival

Today I am so excited to be sharing a post with you that is  bit different than my usual - I'm talking to you about an upcoming event (and it's awesome fashion component). If you live in the Greater Vancouver area (or are planning a trip here), come check out the 5th Annual Columbia StrEAT Food Truck Fest

This event is the biggest one-day food truck festival in Canada! It is happening Saturday July 29th from 4-10pm in the city of New Westminster and there will be over 150 vendors and food trucks. What a cool concept and a great way to spend a Saturday evening! This year, in addition to all the amazing Food Truck vendors (...Tacofino here I come) there will also be a Style Hive section where local New West boutiques will be out with their latest goodies so you can shop your heart out! I'll be in attendance as well, meeting people and helping them pick out great new items, so come say hi to me!!

New Westminster has a bunch of great boutiques. In preparing for this Style Hive event, I got to go check out a couple of the stores that will be present in the Style Hive; and man-oh-man were there some great finds! I wanted to give you guys the "inside scoop"; so I thought I would share  a sneak peek of some of my favorite things from these boutiques.

Mila and Paige is a fashion-forward boutique carrying brands such as Dex, Brunette the Label, Gentle Fawn and more. I love that in addition to a carefully curated selection from those great brands, Mila & Paige also carries accessories such as mugs and jewelry. If you caught my instastory last week, you'll know that I could not stop laughing over a giant black mug that just says "MAN TEARS" in bold white lettering. haha! Below are some of my favorite pieces in store right now!

The Vancouver Fashion Truck is your fashion boutique on wheels! Yep, you read that right - it is a traveling fashion boutique. How cool! As a bonus the owner, Megan, is the sweetest/cutest and she will definitely give you an awesome shopping experience!

The Vancouver Fashion Truck is a treasure trove for summer goodies; from the best selection of graphic tees and accessories (I got the cutest baseball cap that says "bad hair day") to chic dresses and summer staples. Below are three of my favorite finds:

For any readers who wear size 10- 32 clothing; this consignment boutique carries exclusively size 10 and up, and they will be at the Style Hive! They have a wide selection of gently used clothing; from suits, to ball gowns, to shoes & accessories. I was shocked at how good the deals were! Below are three items I saw that I loved. The striped dress in the middle is Calvin Klein, and it was on sale for only $38!
If you aren't sizes 10-32, still stop by this boutique in the Style Hive for their selection of jewelry & accessories. You may still find yourself a treasure despite not fitting their clothing; I did! I found a necklace & earring set (pictured below) as well as a pair of like-new Nine West flats.

I hope you liked this "sneak peek" and I hope to see some of you on July 29th. Come say hi; I'd love to meet you!

Work Wear | NSale Purchases Review & Re-Stocked Items

Happy Monday! I am back from San Francisco and headed to work this morning. I had such a great couple of days meeting up with blogger friends (hey Kelsey heyyyy!) and catching up with my friend I was visiting. If you follow me on instagram, you know that I went to Nordstrom and bought a ton of work wear from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.

Today I wanted to share my fitting room photos with you and give you reviews of the pieces, so that you can shop the NSale before it ends next week!!  I'll also share at the bottom some of the most popular items from the NSale that have recently restocked some sizes. Hopefully some things you missed out on initially are available now!

First, the above look. This blouse was hands down my favorite item from the sale. The silk is so soft and it is clearly well made. I loved the french cuff sleeves and all the piping detail. I would size down in this though (I was a small when I am most commonly a medium). The pants I am wearing here were also a surprise find. I am always keeping my eyes open for good black work pants, since they really are surprisingly difficult to find. These are so comfortable, they are stretchy and knit fabric so they practically feel like pajamas. I highly recommend them!

Sleeveless Turtleneck // Pants

These are the first two items I have tried from the brand Emerson Rose. I definitely like the cut and quality - especially of the sleeveless turtleneck top. Both also fit true to size so this is a great brand to check out if you are looking for some new work wear.

These motto leggings were at the top of my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale wishlist. Zella leggings are always a safe bet (they don't loose their stretch, they don't pill and they are incredibly comfortable) so when I saw these with the moto detailing I knew I wanted to check them out! The one thing I find with them is that they do fit a bit tight so your regular size should be fine but if you are a looking for added comfort consider going up a size.

Blazer // Pencil Skirt

If you follow my instastories you'll likely have seen my (embarassing) happy dance over the fact that this pencil skirt has pockets. I want to stock up on printed pencil skirts (so this striped one is great) but the pockets are what really sold me. The blazer is also a great one- I love that it is a bit longer than a traditional blazer - I just always find that more flattering. The blazer also comes in other colors! I am considering getting the blush pink as well.

This dress is a "meh" for me. I love the flutter sleeve detailing, but I didn't find the completely straight neckline to be flattering. This is one I don't think I'll be keeping.

Shopping | Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: Top 15 Picks

I shared my wear-to-work picks from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale last week, but since today is the first day of public access I thought I would share a quick post of my favorite things. Ie. Not just office wear, but my general favorite items from the Nordstrom Sale. I don't want to overwhelm you guys with Nordstorm sale content, so I've narrowed it down to my top 15 picks from this year's NSale. You can shop my 15 favorite items in the widget below (just click through!)

Some highlights I want to mention about my favorite items:

1) The La Mer Set:
This is probably the #1 item from the NSale (in my mind) and definitely the thing I would most recommend if you are only going to get one thing from the Nordstrom sale. La Mer cream is hands down the best face cream out there. Just google it- the results and reviews are incredibly. It is however extremely expensive (at least for my tastes) so getting this set for $55 less than you would normally spend is awesome. I am buying two so that the cream lasts me for a while!

2) The Tory Burch Riding Boots:
Order these immediately as they sell out every year. I bought last year's TB riding boots in the cognac color, and am going to get this year's in black. They are, quite simply, the perfect fall boot. I wore mine literally 5x a week last fall/winter!

3) The Zella Moto Leggings:
Zella leggings are considered by many people to be the best leggings out there as they are comfortable, stay in place, and hug in all the right places. I have their basic leggings (and agree with all of the above) but I love the idea of adding these moto detail ones to my wardrobe. Worn with boots and tunics these would be perfect all fall and winter long.

4) The Michael Kors Trench:
FINALLY. I have been looking for a cute rain coat with a hood for the past three years (...since i moved to Raincouver; I mean "Vancouver"). This is a classic cut trench in a classic color and actually has a hood. This is a must-have if you live in the Pacific North West!

5) Good American High Waist Skinny Jeans:
I have been wanting to see what all the hype is about with Good American jeans for quite some time. (Do they really flatter every body type?!) The price tag has stopped me from pulling the trigger on these jeans, but with the NSale pricing they are definitely worth trying out! If you are interested in hearing more about how these jeans fit tune into my instagram today (See more below!)

As someone who does not have early access to the sale, today is my first day to shop! I will be heading to Nordstrom today to try on the items I didn't want to order without seeing how they fit first. I will be doing try-on sessions in my instagram stories, so be sure to follow along to get the inside scoop on how these items look in real life, as well as all the details about sizing and quality! I plan to start getting the instastories up around 11am PST (and of course they will stay up for 24 hours).

Happy Shopping!!!

Weekend Wear | Shirt Dress

Dress c/o // Wedges c/o // Choker Necklace c/o (20% off with code LEGALLEE) // Similar Handbags (1), (2)

This dress arrived from The Mint Julep Boutique last week and I couldn't wait to share it with you all. There is something so timeless about a shirt dress; I own at least four!  What really drew me to this one is the trapeze cut. Trapeze / flared dresses have been on repeat in my closet this summer. I love the loose fit and they are so flattering! This dress does run large, so size down! For reference, I am wearing a medium, but definitely should have gone with a small.

I think what I love most about shirt dresses is that they have that perfect balance between business and casual. This is a dress I would feel comfortable wearing to basically any weekend event; from brunch, to meetings, to running errands. To make it even more summery and casual weekend ready I styled it with my favorite choker necklace and these gorgeous gold strappy wedges. I swear by wedges in the summertime (noone wants to be out and about in heels!) These gold ones are great because the gold basically acts as a summer time neutral, so you can wear them with almost anything!

I wore this exact outfit to meet friends for drinks on Friday night and it felt like the perfect outfit because I was comfortable all night long. I actually walked about 2 miles from where we were to where my condo is and my feet didn't hurt at all!!

In other news, I am off to San Francisco / Palo Alto tomorrow!! I am so excited for a mini-vacation (I am going just for 4 days). A friend of mine moved there two years ago, so I am going to visit him and can't wait to check out the city! Be sure to follow along on instagram for stories and updates on my trip. If you have any last minute suggestions of things I need to see / places I need to go, let me know in the comments below!
