Wednesday Wants: Sales, Off the Shoulder Styles, and Summer Accessories

If you follow my Facebook page, you may have seen my post this past weekend about JCrew. JCrew is a go-to for me, and for so many working women. I love that they incorporate color into classic wear-to-work pieces (... my flamingo pink Regan blazer, being a prime example!) If you missed the news: essentially, J Crew has decided to undergo a big overhaul and they are lowering the prices on their clothing going forward!! As such, for both of this week's weekend and work outfit ideas, I decided to feature J Crew items.

The Weekend Outfit:

I actually squealed when I saw these J Crew pineapple earrings. They are definitely the cutest jewelry I have ever seen, and so perfect for summer. I wanted to stick with a fun, laid back vibe for the rest of this outfit (too match the earrings) and I can't get enough of this off the shoulder dress! Perfect for Sunday strolls, a Saturday at the beach, or a day of shopping! I paired it with the Cult Gaia clutch (such an "it" bag) and laid back sneakers. I like the touch of gold on the sneakers to add a bit more flare to the look!

The Work Outfit:

The J Crew item in this look is the pastel pink ruffle pencil skirt. I echo my earlier statement about J Crew taking classic pieces and adding color and fun. The ruffle is too cute! Paired with a button down (hello, scallop trim!) and white accessories and this outfit seems like a major want (need?!) for a summer day at the office. The skirt would also be an excellent piece to transition from your 9 to 5, to dinner/drinks!

Palm Springs: A Girls Weekend "Travel Guide"

Palm Springs, California aka. the perfect destination for a weekend getaway! If you follow me on instagram, you know that last weekend I did a weekend trip with my friend Natalia to Palm Springs. It was a long weekend here in Canada, and so we wanted to do a girls trip / a warm-weather getaway. Palm Springs turned out to be the perfect travel destination for a 2-3 day trip.

Today I am sharing a quick and easy list of what to do/see/eat on a weekend trip to Palm Springs. Be sure to read to the end of the post to read about why Palm Springs makes the perfect destination for a 2-3 trip, and why it makes the perfect destination for a girls trip!

Where to Stay:  Los Arboles Hotel
*thank you to Los Arboles for sponsoring my stay. As always, all reviews and opinions are my own.

Los Arboles is a boutique hotel located right in the heart of Palm Springs. In addition to it's great location (walking distance to the restaurants, coffee shops & shopping) the hotel itself is a perfect, quiet, spot to relax. The hotel isn't rowdy - which is great when you just need a chance to get away and relax (you can go elsewhere for a day party on either the Saturday or Sunday of your weekend trip; more about that below!)

Los Arboles is a beautiful hotel - both the pool (as you can see above) and the rooms. Los Arboles is especally perfect for a girls weekend because they have a room that has a queen bed and a pull out, but has TWO bathrooms. You KNOW that on a girls trip; one of the biggest challenges is when everyone wants to do their hair and makeup at once in a tiny bathroom! haha. This fixes that! This room also has a private balcony out back.

Los Arboles is also home to one of the best Mexican restaurants in Palm Springs (more on that below) so having that right at your door step is a huge bonus!

Where to Eat:  El Mirasol & Cheeky's

 Cheeky's Brunch
El Mirasol Restaurant

Dinner at El Mirasol - Shrimp Dona Diabla & a Jalapeno Margarita

For brunch, head to Cheeky's. Cheeky's is the most popular brunch spot in Palm Springs (for good reason!). The only downside is the wait. If you are going on a weekend brunch, prepare to wait over an hour for your table. The good news is that once your name is on the list you can wander away (we did some shopping) just be sure to get back before your name is called or they will give away your table!

For dinner, head to El Mirasol. As I mentioned above, Los Arboles is home to one of the two El Mirasol locations. I have to tell you - we ate here twice and hands down it is the best Mexican food I have ever had. ... And that includes when I lived in San Diego and routinely went over the border into Mexico for Sunday brunch! If you like spicy, I highly, highly recommend the Shrimp Dona Diabla.

Coffee:  Koffi & Ernest Coffee

If you read my New Orleans Travel Guide from earlier this year, you know that I am a coffee addict to the point that trying out coffee shops is a priority wherever I travel. Coffee, therefore, always gets it's own section in my travel posts. (Can't stop, wont Stop... probably because my over-caffeination  wont let me :P)

My favorite coffee shop in Palm Springs is Koffi. Not only do they roast really good coffee; but their food and other drinks are amazing too. If you're in the mood for something sweet, try the coconut mocha frappucino - it is amazing! Koffi is also great for their atmosphere - if you go out the back you will find a patio overlooking a garden/park area. It is a perfect spot to sit and enjoy your beverage!

Ernest Coffee is also good - especially if you just want a quick latte or drip coffee. Their selection isn't as great as Koffi, but for the coffee purist, it is still a great choice.

Activities & "Must-Do's":

1. El Saguaro

                                          Shop my outfit here
If you're having a relaxing weekend away, you likely want a lot of time to just relax by your hotel pool. But, if you want a day of 'partying', I highly recommend a day spent at El Saguaro. The hotel is probably the most colorful, instagrammable (pretend that's a word...) hotel in all of the USA. They have a day pool party similar to Vegas pool parties (but of course smaller and less crazy). We had a blast listening to the DJ and drinking way too many margaritas. Honestly, it's also worth a trip just to take photos of the amazing hotel doors!

2. Self-Guided Driving Tour

Visit the "Palm Springs" sign for some scenic views and a photo op!

One of the top things to do in Palm Springs is just drive around on a tour of the city! Start out by heading to the Palm Springs sign (at the foot of the town). Perfect for a photo op, and a great place to start a drive up the hills. Essentially, you can drive around the hills to see heritage houses (you can buy a map at the Visitors Centre - but honestly, you can just do some googling and save yourself the $5).

Back in the heart of Palm Springs, you can drive to go see the house that was Frank Sinatra's Palm Springs home (surprisingly unassuming and small; but cool to see nonetheless!)

Finally, you can (and should) drive out to see the house with #ThatPinkDoor. I mean, if a door has it's own instagram hashtag, it's gotta be worth a visit right?!

3. Shopping!

No trip to Palm Springs is complete without some shopping (or at least window shopping) of the stores in the heart of Palm Springs. The majority of stores are furniture and home decor - exactly the style you would expect in 1960s style Palm Springs. There are also some vintage jewelry and clothing stores.

And that's it! So why do I say that Palm Springs is perfect for A) a 2-day only trip and B) a girls weekend?

Palm Springs is perfect for only 2 days, because there isn't that much to do. You can feel as though you've seen and done everything you want to in just 2-3 days.

It is perfect for a "girls weekend" because it allows you to relax (unlike Vegas) while still getting to do some partying (unlike other sleepy towns).

As always - if you have any questions, please let me know in the comments below! I hope you get to enjoy a weekend trip to Palm Springs in the near future!

Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale: Best of Work Wear

I know, I know, everyone and their dog is writing about the Nordstrom half-yearly sale. Today though, I am bringing you a unique post on the sale - focusing exclusively on the best 9-to-5 / work wear items. The Nordstrom half-yearly sale has over 20,000 items on sale, so of course you don't have the time to scroll through everything! I've got you covered as I have searched the entire sale and rounded up the best office chic, corporate style, total girl boss items. :)

There are a number of great dresses on sale - from Eliza J to Adrianna Papell. Springs best work wear trends - from stripes, to pleats, to key-hole necklines can be found on these great on-sale dresses. My personal favorite has to be the Eliza J key hole neckline dress for under $90!!

I was pleasantly surprised to see brands like Theory & Ted Baker have blazers & shirts included in the sale. You will never go wrong with a Theory or Ted Baker blazer - they are impeccably made to last, and so well worth their price tag. So; when they are 30-40% off? They become must-haves!!

Halogen is my go-to affordable work wear brand. Their suits are always affordable, but still look well made. The classic Halogen pencil skirt is part of the sale, making it under $40! There are also a number of items in spring's biggest trends- from wide leg cropped pants, to printed skirts!

What can I say... I am a shoe addict! Especially when it comes to high heels for work - I am always on the hunt for trendy, but still comfortable pumps. There are so many great ones that are part of the Nordstrom sale! I linked up my absolute favorites below.

One of this season's "it-bags" has been the Rebecca Minkoff "Always on Regan" Tote (it's also my personal favorite Rebecca Minkoff bag). As part of the Nordstrom Sale it is now 40% off!! There are also a number of other great designer bags - big enough to hold everything you could need for your work day!

Wednesday Wants: Parisian Spring Style

Parisian inspired looks never seem to go out of style. Especially for spring; black white and pops of red are a perfect combination for your 9-to-5 style. Stripes and ruffles are parisian chic as well, and are perfect for a weekend outfit.

The Work Look:
I really like this pencil skirt because of the added detailing of the gold exposed zippers. Paired with a classic white blouse with a black bow tie back and red bow shoes and you've got a beautiful wear to work outfit! If you aren't a fan of red, these heels also come in 5 other colors! ... I may or may not want at least 3 of them haha.

The Weekend Look:

This t-shirt is an absolute must-have! It's a stand out piece, but still classic enough to go with so many items in your wardrobe - from jeans, to white shorts, to these bow tie waist 'dressy' shorts. The shirt, I should add, is also great because it is SO affordable! To go with this navy and white Parisian look, I paired simple nude heels that would be a great staple in your spring / summer wardrobe. I also want these simple white and gold earrings!

Which of these Parisian inspired items is your favorite?!

5 Beauty Products to Update Your Look for Spring

It has been ages since I did a beauty post, and with spring in full swing I figured now was the perfect time to do a beauty post on makeup that you can use to update or 'freshen up' your look. I've rounded up five of the best new products in the makeup world; products that are must-haves this spring!

We all know that makeup for your 9-to-5 can't be too over the top. What I love about these fresh spring products is that all 5 items of makeup are subtle enough for the office - but are still trendy and fresh for spring. So let's get to it:

I am a foundation addict. I use Estee Lauder double wear religiously, but have never found the perfect powder to go on top of it. I have combination skin (yay for still getting acne in my thirties :S). My skin gets shiny easily but is also very dry with constantly flaky skin on my nose. This is the FIRST powder I have ever found that masks/prevents shine while not making my dry patches look drier. I am officially obsessed and cannot recommend this enough. This is a perfect product to give your skin a fresh, healthy look for spring! For reference, I am wearing the shade "nude".

This is actually my second shade of the Style Addict Highlighter by Teeez. Highlighters have become a makeup must have this past year, and this is only going to become a bigger trend as we move towards spring and summer and away from the heavier look of contouring. The color, called "Berlin Sunrise" is a great shade for spring as it gives a subtle, cool-undertoned glow. I like that it can be dabbed on in small amounts for a work day subtle glow, or can be layered for a brighter look on the weekend.

I have never been that into blush, but this palette has definitely changed that. I love the marbled coloring of each blush as it avoids the "fake" rosy look that I worry about getting when I apply blush. I also like the number of choices because it allows you to mix and create the perfect shade for your skin that day. Remember, your skin reacts to it's environment as well as your hormones so colors that look good one day may not be the best the next.

What I like about this brow product is that it is a dual mascara wand application and pencil like liner. I currently use the Anastasia brow powder duo, and while I LOVE it, it is definitely a heavier look. I think this pixi brow duo will become my go to for spring and summer as the wand end provides just a slight hint of coloring, while the pencil end allows you to make some precision strokes to fill in your brow. This results in a softer brow which looks more natural and carefree for spring and summer.

This mascara is an amazing, amazing product. I have really long lashes ( thanks to the lash boost serum I sell/use by Rodan & Fields) but I need mascara because my eyelashes go blonde at the end. My biggest pet peeve about mascaras is how many of them are clumpy! The amount of mascaras I have tried that make me look like I have a grand total of 4 eyelashes is mind blowing. This bulletproof mascara is not as lengthening as my go to mascara, but as that is less of a concern for me now, I am in love with this because it is clump free!! The mascara goes on so, so smoothly and leaves your lashes looking full - SCORE! What a great way to update your look for spring - fuller looking eyelashes!

And there you have it! I love the results of using these 5 products in my spring makeup routine. Try adding them to yours to give you a fresh, updated spring look!

Ps. The lipstick I am wearing here is another product I am currently loving; it's Teez Lip Duo in Rosebud Shine. I will link it up below in case anyone is interested.

Please note: some of these products were provided to me for review by Teeez & Pixi. As always, all opinions are my own.

Updating Your Work Wear for Spring

It's easy to get in a style rut when it comes to work wear. Unlike your casual clothes, work day items tend to be more conservative and classic and, therefore, can feel boring. This does not have to be the case though! Two easy ways to update your 9-to-5 style this spring and summer are with scarves and lace.
More specifically; scarves have been on trend this year and - luckily for us working women - they are easy to incorporate into business casual / office style. One way to wear spring / summer scarves to work is by wearing your scarf loosely down the sides of a blazer as I did here. It's such an easy way to transform the look of a classic work day outfit! This is one of my favorite outfit 'updates'. If you missed it, check out last week's post for another way you can style a scarf for your 9 to 5.
Another way to update your office style this spring is by incorporating lace. Lace is everywhere this spring and there are more and more options coming out that are work day appropriate. This lace hem skirt is my absolute favorite new piece of work wear. I love the slightly longer lace hem, and the fit is so comfortable! I definitely recommend this skirt.
Today is a short work day for me - I am only working until lunch as I am headed out this afternoon for a long weekend vacation! Follow along on instagram or twitter for updates on where I am headed and some of my trip behind-the-scenes!

Wednesday Wants

Finally getting to wear white is my favorite part of spring/summer style! I love how polished and crisp white pants or skirts look for work - and how laid back and beachy white dresses and rompers look on the weekend.

The Work Look:
This week I have my eye on these gorgeous wide leg white pants. Paired with a crisp striped button down and you've got a breezy but chic office outfit! You may have noticed lately my love of shoes that lace up or have straps - and that obsession is still going strong haha. I love the design of these navy pumps!

The Weekend Look:
I own 3 white rompers and I still want this one, haha. That my friends is how versatile and perfect white rompers are. They. go. with. everything. The long sleeves on this one provide a nice balance to the shorts / crochet exposure.

Which of these items is your favorite?! Tell me you are swooning over them as much as I am?!

In other news: I am guest posting today over on Lizzie in Lace! Be sure to head over there to check out my post on adding color into your work wear (and give Lizzie some love on her social media/blog - she is the sweetest and the best feminine/princess style!)
