I am a *huge* holiday fan. I love all the activities and decorating that go along with each of them. Halloween is no exception, and I am so excited to dress up for a Halloween party on Saturday night! Of course, this 'holiday enthusiasm' cannot be expressed quite so much in the work environment as a young professional.

That does not mean however that professionals cannot embrace holidays at all. A perfect way to celebrate the season (whatever season that may be) is to incorporate the seasons' colors into your office wardrobe. Burnt orange is subtle enough to be office appropriate, while still being quite festive and fun. It is the perfect tone to wear around halloween and thanksgiving! I will be wearing this blazer to work today... and I may or may not have halloween candy shoved in each pocket haha.

I hope you all have exciting Halloween plans ahead!! I would love to hear about what costumes you are wearing, so please feel free to let me know in the comments below!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Neutrals - blush tones, camels, and greys - are going to be very popular this winter. I've been eyeing a number of great neutral pieces in stores lately and thought I'd get a head start on rounding up some great pieces for the late fall and early winter. I must say my favourite items are the gorgeous wrap coat and bow coat!

Today promises to be a busy day with a course on ethics in the legal profession in the evening followed by one of my favourite dance classes. I hope you all have a great day ahead as well! See you back here on Friday!!

I haven't shown you guys a casual 'what i wear on the weekend' post in a while, so I thought I'd show this cozy fall outfit. I love mixing stripes and plaid (as you may know from this post) so this is a go to weekend outfit for me.

These are hands down my go to fall boots. I initially grabbed these boots on a whim - while grocery shopping with my mom while I was visiting her! ha! - but I am SO glad I did. The "v" cut of the boots gives the illusion of length to your legs and is flattering on everybody!

Below is a round up of other "V front" boots that will have similar qualities in terms of lengthen the look of your legs. I gotta say the Joe Fresh ones are still my favourites though!

I had such a busy weekend and am definitely tired today! Does anyone else find October to be the busiest month of the year? 4 of my closest friends have their birthdays in October, my niece and goddaughter do as well, and then throw in Thanksgiving (Canadian) and Halloween and the month just seems to fly by! I hope you've all had a great month so far! See you back here on Wednesday (...at which time I will hopefully have caught up on sleep!)

5 Tips to Look More Professional

ways-to-make-your-outfit-more-professional
how-to-make-a-basic-blazer-more-chic
how-to-improve-your-work-wardrobe

Today I wanted to share with you all a classic work look modernized with a belt. Lately, I find myself wearing a wide belt over a blazer and pants quite often. It adds an element of chic to a standard professional outfit.

I was recently asked if I had any tips for making work outfits look more professional. I thought it was a great question and so, here are 5 simple tips to make your outfits look and feel more professional. I hope you enjoy them! Have a great weekend everyone and I will see you back here on Monday.

5 Tips to Make Your Outfits More Professional

1) Choose a Fitted vs. a Boxy Blazer
In the above photos, you'll see that I'm wearing a well fitted blazer. A sure fire way to make your work outfit look more professional and polished is to opt for your fitted blazers instead of any boxy or slouchy ones you may have.

2) Choose a Structured vs. an Unstructured Handbag

My handbag above has a classic structured shape. While handbags like this are gorgeous and on-trend, your work outfit will look more professional if you choose one of your structured handbags instead. if you are looking for a great structured bag I would suggest this

3) Choose Pointed vs. Round Toe Shoes
While you may still like the look of a rounder toe on shoes, a classic work look is far more likely to favor a pointed toe. It elongates your leg and pulls the outfit together. In addition to my Ivanka Trumps (linked above) I also find these to be very comfortable.

4) Choose Tucked In vs. Out
An untucked shirt in a professional setting appears messy. While I am a huge fan of untucked tunic shirts with leggings on my "off days", at work your shirt should be tucked in.

5) Material Matters!

Avoid sheer fabrics when putting together your office outfits. period. Shirts in heavier materials will not only 'hold up' better through a long work day, but they also will make an outfit look more professional.

Lipstick - my favourite!!!

fall-dress-looks

Happy Wednesday! I have the YSL Lipstick that's pictured this week in a nude color and it is one of the two best lipsticks I have ever had. I definitely want this new soft pink hue! I am also majorly in love with burgundy and blue hues right now, so of course the checkered pencil skirt had to make this week's wants!

Tonight I fly back to Vancouver. I am excited to get back to my apartment, but I do hate how long the flight is! Hopefully it is a smooth flight and I can get home quickly because I have to be at work early tomorrow morning.

See you all back here on Friday! Have a great day.

I was talking to my best friend who lives in Australia and she was telling me about how her office does "casual Monday" instead of casual Friday. The reasoning,as she says, is because on Fridays you want to look sharp for after work drinks! I though that was pretty cool, so today i am embracing 'casual Monday'!

This may be the first time you've seen me in jeans on LLB! This is not because I don't like jeans, but because I haven't found ones that are both flattering and comfortable. Enter these relaxed skinny jeans from Dynamite. I am in love!

A pair of well-fit, comfortable jeans are an essential in every young professional's "off-duty" wardrobe. If you are still hunting for your perfect pair, definitely give these ones a try!

Tonight I am off to the pumpkin patch with my best friend and two little goddaughters. I can't wait! Be sure to follow me on instagram for pics!

Fridays call for fun, bold work looks. Patterned pants are a great way to change up your office style. I also personally love adding my rose gold heels whenever I want to add a touch of drama to my outfit.

This faux leather sleeve blazer is also a go-to for me. I love finding blazers that keep the classic, fit and look of a blazer - but add a touch of trend; in this case, faux leather.

I hope you all have a great weekend! I will be a busy bee trying to see lots of family and friends here in Ontario over the weekend. My goddaughter's 3rd birthday party is on Sunday and I think I am most excited about that! See you back here on Monday! In the meantime - I FINALLY GOT TWITTER! Please Follow me!!

Wednesday Wants ... and a HUGE sale announcement!

Women's office appropriate fashion gets better and better every season. This week's wants are dedicated to work appropriate on-trend items. I am especially loving oxfords as an alternative to heels (some days your feet just need a break!) I hope you like this week's picks!

Today is my last day of work before a quick vacation back to my parents place in Ontario. My dad and I are actually surprising my mum- she has no idea I am coming home. I am looking so, so forward to spending some time with family and all of my east coast friends.

I also wanted to let you all know about the HUGE sale going on at Shopbop right now! Until 11:55pm tomorrow night (PST) Shopbop is offering 25% off almost everything! This is a great time to grab those investment pieces you've been wanting, be that a classic blazer, riding boots, or the perfect black heels. To get your 25% off, simply use the coupon code INTHEFAM25.

My FAVOURITE item from the Shopbop sale is Princess Kate's go to item... and now it's almost $150 off (make it finally affordable!!) Happy shopping!

A popular trend in women's office wear this season has been the introduction of 'office track pants'. This outfit is my take on how to best style them for work. I don't think they work as well with a structured blazer due to their relaxed fit, but I think they can be an appropriate choice for the office (and a comfortable one!) when paired with a fitted top.

I also must mention these gorgeous earrings from
Happiness Boutique. I adore their statement necklaces and earrings! I was very pleased with the quality when I received these (so far they haven't tarnished at all and they don't give my ears that itchy feeling!) I would definitely recommend this online boutique!

To all my Canadian readers - happy thanksgiving!! I hope you have a day full of relaxation, family and food! I am attending a big potluck thanksgiving dinner at a friend's place tonight and cannot wait for it! I feel very thankful to have a diverse and pretty darn awesome group of friends.

This weekend is Thanksgiving long weekend in Canada. As such, I wanted to do a post focused on all things Thanksgiving - both fashion & food. And; it gives all of you American readers extra time to think about your thanksgiving outfits and eats!!!

The three outfits above are all outfits that fit my "Thanksgiving criteria". In other words, they scream "fall" and are comfortable enough to both run around in, and to allow you to eat a ton in haha.

And just for fun, I also wanted to talk a bit about Thanksgiving food. mmm. Below are the recipes I plan on trying this Thanksgiving. For these and more recipes, be sure to follow me on pinterest!

November 22nd update for my American readers: I tried the Apple Cider Sangria recipe and it was AMAZING. Everyone loved it! I definitely recommend this delicious drink. I also made a non-alcoholic version by replacing the white wine with carbonated water (I have a soda stream) and the vodka with a splash of cranberry juice. I also increased the cinnamon by a pinch!

Have a great Thanksgiving to anyone celebrating this weekend!! I am so excited for the long weekend! Some friends of mine are hosting a giant Thanksgiving potluck on Monday and I cannot wait!

Despite it being a holiday Monday in Canada I WILL still be posting on Monday (and it is an awesome work outfit - you don't want to miss it!) so I will hopefully see you all back here on Monday. Cheers!
