High Five for Friday #7

Welcome to another "High Five for Friday" where I recap 5 great things from my past week. I realized I hadn't done one in a few weeks so figured it was high time I let you know what's been going on in my life! Here goes:

1) Dance Class:
I have fallen off the wagon with my workout schedule since my dance performance at the end of June. On Monday I took my first dance class since then and it was so, so good! Not only did I feel physically better having worked out, but I felt mentally more clam and clear. Working out is a huge factor in my emotional well being for sure!

2) Outdoor Movie:
On Tuesday night my friend Natalia & I went to a sing-along, outdoor showing of Greece. Every Tuesday during the summer outdoor movies are shown in Stanley Park (our massive local park) which I just think is such a great city event! We had a ton of fun watching (read: giggling/singing along to) Greece, and I will definitely be attending again before the summer is over! I think next week they are playing Top Gun which, clearly, will be awesome.

3) Fireworks:
Wednesday night a group of friends and I went down to the beach to watch the third of three nights of fireworks as part of the Celebration of Light in Vancouver. They fireworks were spectacular and I just generally love evenings spent on the beach.

4) Interesting Reads
:

I almost always include something that I've read this week as one of my "5 great things" (blame the 8 years of post-secondary education for the fact that I read CONSTANTLY haha). Anyway, this week I read a couple things worth mentioning here:

THIS kick butt article, "26, unmarried & childless". This really hit home for me. It talks about how people always ask "what's next?" which, though harmless, can cause a lot of stress. It's a great reminder for us to focus on "what's now" both in on our own lives and when inquiring about others.

THIS article on tips for avoiding junk food even when you are crazy busy. (sidenote: this comes from Kayla Itsines' website - her workouts are what I am doing right now and I love them)

THIS interesting new fashion trend. Hmm I actually love the idea of having MORE space to put things, but don't know if I'd just get annoyed with this. What do you guys think?! I may try it out in the fall and see how it feels.

** I didn't know what photo to put here, so here is a shot of me reading a legal book (the laws of England) from the SIXTEEN HUNDREDS. Law nerd'ing it up harrrrrd at this fact**

5) Potluck Dinner:

Last night I went to a pot luck dinner at a friend's house. I decided to make something sweet from my pinterest board, and ended up going with these salted caramel dark chocolate dipped marshmallows. It was such a quick and easy recipe (that was a total hit!) so I definitely recommend it.

AND before I finish this post I have to share with you my
latest picks from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! These are all "wear to work" items that I haven't shown you before. The sale ends on Monday so be sure to head on over and order right away!! See the links below the photos to each item or scroll through the widget to click on any item.

Wednesday Wants

Cognac Cross Body
NARS lipgloss
Oversize Ruffle Tee
Straw Bow Clutch
Leopard Belt
Ivory Pebble Handbag

This week I have been doing SO MUCH SHOPPING! I just love looking at all the great deals on summer stuff and the new fall trends coming in. This weeks "wants" are my usual smorgasbord of items - I am most excited about the Gigi New York handbag which I have had my eye on for MONTHS. It is FINALLY on sale! Such a perfect purse for work - and you can get it monogramed! I also love the super cheap cognac crossbody. It reminds me of the Tory Burch one from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale that sold out completely within the first few days of the sale (... can't believe I didn't get my hands on one, world's tiniest violin playing over here ha)

Hope you all have a terrific Wednesday! See you back here on Friday! OH and just a reminder to pretty please "like" me on facebook (here)! It would mean a lot to me to grow my number of facebook likes!

While LegalLee Blonde is primarily a business casual / "wear to work" inspiration style blog, I do like to show weekend outfits every now and then (like my go-to summer outfit here). I could not resist showing you this weekend look as this may be my favourite dress ever. ever, ever.

I wore this outfit this past weekend to the Deighton Cup; a horse racing event here in Vancouver. It was a really fun event and I felt perfectly southern in this dress & hat combo. If you look closely you can see that the dress pattern is a whole bunch of Mint Julep cups - so perfect for our version of the Kentucky Derby!

I hope you all had a great weekend as well and are ready to take on another work week! Be sure to follow me on instagram to see my work outfit for today - and get some work outfit inspiration on your Monday morning!

Summer Lovin'

Tee: Target (the comfiest tee & it's under $15!)
Denim Vest:

Shorts:

Sunglasses:
Polette
Pineapple Ring:
Old. Similar: herehere
 Earrings: Old. Similar: here
Clutch: Marley Lilly
Sandals: DIY

An oh-so-comfy, oh-so-summery, outfit seemed perfect for your Friday morning. I have been living in this outfit this summer! The target tee is my new essential basic, and I love these palm print shorts. Paired with my favourite sunnies & favourite sandals, this outfit is just pure summer happiness to me!

I HAVE to tell you guys about these sandals. So, if you follow my blog you may recall my "travel & fashion" post on Greece. As I mentioned in that post these are custom made sandals from Athens. I have been drooling all summer over the rhinestoned sandal trend but did not want to shell out the +$70 that I kept seeing ones for. So, I got my comfy custom made sandals and super glued on a bunch of rhinestones from Michaels. These instantly became my favourite sandals.

I get SO many compliments on these gold armed sunglasses of mine! They look so much more expensive than they actually are and the quality is wayyyy better than my usual cheap sunnies.
If you haven't heard of Polette eyewear yet, be sure to check them out! You can see my post on their "e-eyewear" (ie. non-prescription glasses that help with staring at computer screens) here.

Have a great weekend everyone! I am off to the Deighton Cup tomorrow (ie. Vancouver's version of the Kentucky Derby). I can't wait! See you all back here on Monday!

Wednesday Wants - Summer Deals ( & Kate Spade news!!)

This is one of my favourite times of the year for shopping.  We still have at least 6 weeks of summer left but you can get amazing prices on summer clothes. Purchasing summer clothes when there is still a fair bit of summer left just makes sense, plus, if you stick to classic silhouettes and colors you know you will get wear out of the items next summer as well.

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is in full swing at this point and while the new fall clothes are so exciting there are SO many great deals on summer items. As such, this week's Wants are my favourite summery items from the NSale. I am especially loving the asymmetrical stiped midi skirt and the  drawstring dress. The drawstring dress is also the perfect example of a summer-to-fall transitional piece. It would look great with tights and riding boots come fall!

Hope you all have a great day ahead of you. I'm off to a long court day. If you aren't following me on instagram yet, be sure to do so to see my work outfit! And, In case you missed it, don't forget to check out my roundup of "wear to work" items from the NSale!  Now get out there and kick some mid-work-week butt. I know you can do it!

Oh and last thing (I swear!) HUGE news for Kate Spade fans out there: they are STARTING A NEW LINE OF LOUNGEWEAR & WORKOUT WEAR. Can you tell I am excited?! I will, of course, keep you posted as details of this unfold. For now, check out this article for what we know so far.

Happy Monday everyone! Last Monday I posted this summer work look and, as promised, here is a summer work look 2. I wanted to show a different way to style the same shirt and the same pants (in a different colour - yes, I have the pants in 4 colours, they are the GREATEST pants of all time). I wanted to show you how versatile your work looks can be even when your base is just dress pants and a basic blouse. I absolutely love this look for work!
Also, I just bought this YSL lipstick this weekend and my. gosh. it is so awesome. I would say it is now tied with my NARS one I am constantly professing my love for. The colour is pretty but the best part is how silky and moisturizing the lipstick is!

Have a great Monday everyone! If you are looking for a little Monday pick me up, the NSale is still going strong! I bought a couple items on the weekend and can't wait for them to arrive. You can shop my favourite NSale
picks here.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale ( & real talk about bloggers making $ from this)

It's that time of year again; the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. This is one of the BIGGEST sales of any retailer at any point in the year (yep, bigger than Black Friday and Boxing Day!) For anyone that doesn't know this is a sale that opened to the public today and lasts until August 3rd. During this time select NEW fall items (ie. not last season's items) are on sale at incredibly reduced prices. Nordstrom indicates beside each item the price it will be selling at after this blitz sale so you can see how much of a discount you are receiving.

I was torn as to whether to do a post on this sale (see explanation about this at the bottom of this post) so I decided to compromise and do a post on it- but as an additional post so as to not take away from my regular content. Win-win! SO without further ado here are my picks from the NSale - both for office/work & for the weekend. Links are at the bottom of each photo OR you can scroll the photo widget and click on the image photo :)  Get these items ASAP as things sell out FAST!

You can also scroll through to click the item you like below:
And now my picks for weekend wear! There are some AMAZING deals to be had (especially on footwear & denim):

You can also scroll through to click the item you like below:
I was unsure about whether to do a post on the sale for one main reason. A lot of people hate Nordstrom Sale posts... primarily because every blogger and their mother (..and their cat, ...and their baby) does one. As such, if you read a couple or more fashion blogs on a regular basis you get complete over kill of the sale at this time of year. However, I wanted to do a post on the NSale for three reasons:

1) I feel like my selections are different than most other fashion bloggers, because of my blog's focus on professional/office wear.

2) I really do LOVE a number of the items in this year's sale

3) I want to make $$$.
- real talk: fashion bloggers make money off of affiliate links. The Nordstrom Anniversary sale provides a huge opportunity (so many items!) for bloggers to make extra money. In fact, many bloggers cite July as their highest earning month because of this sale. I, being the small blogger that I am, do not make a lot of money of the blog - I do it for fun. However, I do get to earn some money from affiliate links and so yes, I admit that I wanted in on this Nordstrom "action"! Affiliate links make me mere pennies (just so were clear) so my goal is that with this sale I can earn an extra dollar or so because of this post (that is literally all.. $1). I really appreciate any/all of your support in clicking the links to the items you like! It doesn't cost you anything (clearly) but helps me continue this blog.

Summer Stripes & 25% off at The Shopping Bag

Dress: The Shopping Bag c/o (25% off with code below!)
Necklace: Kendra Scott (in periwinkle)
Flats: Lilly for Target (similar: here)

On summer nights, I love throwing on a simple cotton dress and heading out the door. This striped dress from The Shopping Bag is the perfect dress for that. I like the length of this dress (not too short) and the general fit (not skin tight). Stripes are a classic summer staple for me, so this dress was a no-brainer addition to my wardrobe.

The Shopping Bag is an online boutique that I recently discovered. What I like about them is that while so many small(ish) online boutiques are carrying the same items (at wildly different price points I might add), The Shopping Bag is different, and actually has some unique pieces at great prices! My personal favourite items are this pineapple romper, this super cool ring, this cut-out jumpsuit, and these pineapple jars (which I know I have posted about already but I love them so much!) I am thrilled to tell you that the Shopping Bag is offering you, my kick-ass readers, 25% off your purchase with the coupon code
LEGALLEEBLONDE. Just enter it at check out and you're good to go!

This weekend I am hoping to soak up as much summer as I can - beach volleyball, patio drinks & generally spending time in the sun! I started reading a really interesting new book; The Transcriptionist and I hope to get some relaxation and reading in this weekend. I hope you all have exciting weekend plans, and I will see you back here on Monday!
